Frederik Schandorff Gears Up for Intense Street Racing in Long Beach
After narrowly missing out on a podium with a fourth-place finish at Sebring, Frederik Schandorff and the rest of the Inception Racing team are ready to take on the challenge of the tight city circuit just south of Los Angeles.
This is the third round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for GTD-class cars. Following the 24-hour race at Daytona and the 12-hour endurance test at Sebring, Long Beach marks the season’s first sprint race — held at one of the most iconic street circuits on the calendar.
With just 100 minutes from green to checkered flag, this is the shortest race of the season. And with only two classes competing — the GTD class for GT3 cars and the top-tier GTP prototypes — fans can once again expect classic street-fighting action.
"I’ve always loved coming to Long Beach. The atmosphere in the city is incredible, and the track is just as cool," says Frederik Schandorff. "To be fast around here, you’ve got to brush the mirrors against the concrete walls. It’s full-on action from start to finish. A good qualifying result is obviously important, but there’s also a strong chance of Full Course Yellows, so luck and strategy play just as big a role."
"Even though we just missed the podium, we had a solid race at Sebring, where we finished ahead of some factory-backed cars. So we’re heading to Long Beach with plenty of confidence. The Ferrari 296 GT3 is new to us this year, but we’ve already gotten comfortable with it quickly. I’m just looking forward to another great challenge," the Dane adds.
Frederik Schandorff will once again be sharing driving duties with his regular teammate, Brendan Iribe. Qualifying takes place in the early hours of Saturday (Danish time), while the 100-minute street race goes green at 2:05 PM local time on Saturday, April 12 — that’s 11:05 PM Danish time.
