Bastian Buus Ready for GT World Challenge Asia with Origine Motorsport

The Danish Porsche factory driver has high expectations for the season opener of the GT World Challenge Asia, which takes place at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia this coming weekend.

After finishing just off the podium in the season’s first race at Nürburgring in March, Bastian Buus now announces his readiness for the opening round of the GT World Challenge Asia, set to be held at Sepang International Circuit this weekend.

Buus is teaming up with top-tier team Origine Motorsport, for whom he contested a single race last year in the Asian GT World Challenge series. Once again, he will be sharing his Porsche 911 GT3 R with Chinese driver Lu Wei, who is among the fastest FIA-classified Bronze drivers in the field and who finished third in the championship last year.

“It’s a really strong lineup. Lu (Wei, ed.) was one of the frontrunners last year, and his hunger to win certainly hasn’t diminished over the winter. At the same time, we have a solid team behind us, so I’m aiming for a strong start to the championship and hoping we can finish the weekend leading the Pro-Am standings,” says Bastian Buus.

While Lu Wei will be contesting all six rounds of the season, Bastian Buus will be sharing the championship with Belgian driver Alessio Picariello. The two will each compete in three rounds to avoid calendar clashes between the GT World Challenge Asia and other international championships.

“Even though I won’t be racing in all of the events, the mission remains the same—bringing the car home in the best positions possible and securing the points needed for the team to fight for the championship,” Buus explains.

The opening round of the GT World Challenge kicks off with official practice sessions on Friday, while qualifying for both of the weekend’s 60-minute races takes place on Saturday. The first race goes green on Saturday, April 12 at 2:15 PM local time (8:15 AM CEST), with the second race starting on Sunday, April 13 at 11:30 AM (5:30 AM CEST). Both races will be streamed live on YouTube.
