Bastian Buus at Zandvoort: Sprint Cup Debut in GT World Challenge
Danish Porsche factory driver Bastian Buus is set for his first outing in the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup, where he anticipates two strong sprint races with Lionspeed GP and team-mate Bashar Mardini.
Having spent most of the week at Spa-Francorchamps for the official test ahead of this summer’s 24-hour race, Buus has now arrived in the Netherlands for the opening round of the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup.
The sprint series officially got underway two weeks ago at Brands Hatch in the UK, but due to space limitations, the Bronze Cup class was not included at that event. This weekend marks Buus’ debut in the category, where he will compete alongside his Canadian team-mate Bashar Mardini. The duo will share a Porsche 911 GT3 R entered by Lionspeed GP, and this weekend's round will be the first of four in the 2025 Sprint Cup season.
“I’m looking forward to the weekend. I know Bashar (Mardini, ed.) from the Porsche Carrera Cup and Supercup, and he has several years of experience with both Cup cars and GT3. Our initial test went well, so as long as we can run a clean race and avoid mistakes or incidents, I think we have a strong foundation for achieving some good results this weekend,” says Bastian Buus.
“This will be my debut in the Sprint Cup within the European GT World Challenge series, but I’m already familiar with the format from the Asian series, so I’m confident it will go well,” the Dane adds.
This weekend’s round of the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup will take place on Saturday 17 May and Sunday 18 May, with race starts scheduled for 15:00 and 14:45 respectively. A total of 41 cars are entered, and Buus and Mardini will be competing against 10 other entries in the Bronze Cup class. Both races will be streamed live on YouTube.
