Third GTWC Podium for Sebastian Øgaard at Zandvoort

A challenging weekend for the Danish Audi driver, who nevertheless managed to secure his third trophy of the season in the GT World Challenge Europe.

After a double podium finish earlier this month at Brands Hatch, Sebastian Øgaard faced a tougher challenge as he battled through the third round of the GT World Challenge Europe at Zandvoort. However, the Dane and his Italian teammate, Leonardo Moncini, still managed to bring home a single podium result in one of the weekend’s two sprint races.

“It was a tough weekend, where we struggled with several issues and generally failed to get everything working optimally. We started far back in the first race of the weekend, where we missed the correct tyre pressure and were unable to fight for the top positions,” said Sebastian Øgaard.

Things improved on Sunday, when it was Øgaard’s turn to qualify the car, and he delivered a strong lap. The time was quickly deleted due to track limits, but only until the stewards admitted they had made a mistake — allowing Øgaard and Moncini to start from a promising second place in the Gold Cup class.

“We had a good and consistent race, managing to stay at the front of the field and were actually on track for what looked like a potential win. Unfortunately, we threw that opportunity away by spending a few seconds too many during the pit stop, which meant we had to settle for second place,” Øgaard explained.

“All in all, a difficult weekend, though we still came away with a trophy. There are a few things we need to improve, but the positive is that the pace is there — and two podiums from two sprint events is a solid result so far,” the Dane added.

Next up for Sebastian Øgaard and the rest of the Tresor Competition team is the fourth round of the GT World Challenge Europe — and the second round of the Endurance Cup — which will be held at Italy’s Monza circuit in two weeks, on June 1.
