Press release -
Luca Magnussen Set for GB4 Championship Debut
Luca Magnussen faces a major challenge this weekend as he lines up for the opening round of the British junior series, the GB4 Championship, at Donington Park. It marks the 15-year-old Dane’s debut in single-seater racing.
Another Magnussen joins the fight on the racetrack this weekend, as 15-year-old Luca Magnussen – son of four-time Le Mans class winner Jan Magnussen and younger brother of Formula 1 ace Kevin – makes his debut in the GB4 Championship. This will be his first race in an international single-seater series, with the goal of finishing the 2025 season as the top rookie on the grid.
"I'm excited and feel well prepared for the challenge. I'm both nervous and thrilled, but most importantly, I'm ready. We’ve spent a lot of time testing on nearly all the circuits featured in the GB4 calendar, which has given me valuable track knowledge and, above all, a lot of seat time – and that’s reflected in my lap times," says Luca Magnussen.
Magnussen will race for one of the most renowned teams in the series, Fortec Motorsports – the outfit that claimed the GB4 drivers’ championship in 2024 and has nurtured former Formula 1 drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Heikki Kovalainen, as well as WEC champions Mike Conway and Gianmaria Bruni. In 2025, Luca will be one of three GB4 drivers for the team, alongside Britain’s Thomas Ingram Hill and Australia’s Jack Taylor.
"I'm impressed by the motorsport culture here in the UK. You can really feel that racing is deeply embedded in the country’s history and taken very seriously at junior level. I honestly couldn’t have landed in a better team. The people here are incredibly experienced and ambitious, and I even have my own engineer assigned to the car," Luca adds.
It was a successful test at Donington Park last autumn that led to the agreement between Magnussen and Fortec Motorsports. Since then, the team has spent several weekends preparing both drivers and equipment for the season opener.
"Everyone has been very welcoming, and all the testing has really paid off. I’m heading into the season opener with a strong sense that we’ve prepared in the best possible way. Now I’m just excited to finally get started," says Magnussen.
The 2025 GB4 Championship will be contested over seven rounds between April and October, with races held at Donington Park, Silverstone Circuit, Oulton Park, Snetterton, and Brands Hatch. Each round features three sprint races.
The opening round takes place this weekend at Donington Park, with qualifying and the first race scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at 18:30 CEST. Races two and three follow on Sunday, April 6 at 11:10 and 16:05 respectively. All races will be streamed live on YouTube.
